When driving to Vernon we pass a sawmill that leaves out it’s cutoffs, trimmings and old weathered wood for people to pick up for firewood. We stopped one afternoon to take a look through the pile and Jayson picked out a bunch of planks and pieces of old palettes and planters. He took a piece of something ( I think an older shelf or maybe half a planter?) and used the wood and the nails that were holding it together to build our first reclaimed/repurposed rustic birdhouse.
Jayson has continued to play around with the lumber we’ve picked up (we make sure to stop by the sawmill every chance we get) and recently whipped up these cutesy birdhouses repurposed with tin can roofs.
Total cost, $0.
